Aamir Khan‘s Dangal has set new benchmarks in the realm of Bollywood with the aid of some blistering performances at the box office. Be it India or any other overseas circuit, Dangal has managed to stay at the top of the ladder every time. After having an impressive spree of collections at the Indian and Chinese box office, it is now roaring at the Hong Kong Box Office. Initially, the movie collected HK$ 15,650,087 (₹ 12.81 cr) in its first two weeks in Hong Kong. After an impressive first two weeks, the film additionally added HK$ 672,022 on its third Friday, HK$ 1,240,585 on its third Saturday and HK$ 1,257,228 on its third Sunday to take its grand total to HK$ 18,819,922 (₹ 15.38 cr).
Hong Kong has never been a commercial circuit for Bollywood by any means. However, Aamir Khan’s Dangal changed the total course of actions that were the previous customs of Bollywood. He has overthrown all the myths and established new markets for Bollywood in other Asian countries. Dangal’s collections have set up some unbreakable records at the box office that will be hard to break for any other Bollywood actor except the megastar Aamir Khan himself. All things considered, Dangal just cannot stop to add crore in its lifetime collection and we’d want it to keep collecting more and more in the upcoming days.
Dangal features Aamir Khan in the lead as Mahavir Singh Phogat who trains his daughters Geeta and Babita (roles essayed by Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra respectively) to make them good enough to win a gold medal in International competitions for India. Zaira Wasim who played the role of the younger version of Geeta Phogat in the movie won a National Film Award for the Best Supporting Actress as well. In addition to these stars, the film also features Sakshi Tanwar in the major role playing the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat’s wife. Dangal won four Filmfare awards as well, namely Best Actor (Aamir Khan), Best Film and Best Director (Nitesh Tiwari).
In the box office records reigns, this is the fourth time when Aamir Khan has given Bollywood its highest grossing film after 3 Idiots, PK, Dhoom 3 and now Dangal. Previously, 3 Idiots collected 395 crores to break into the #1 position in the list which was later broken by Dhoom 3 which collected 558 crores. After Dhoom 3, it was PK that garnered 831.50 crores followed by Dangal which stays at the top as of now.
The only probable films that can even think about reaching Dangal’s records are Akshay Kumar and Rajnikanth’s 2.0, Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai, Shah Rukh Khan’s Dwarf Film, Prabhas’ Saaho and Aamir Khan’s next film Thugs of Hindostan. These films have the potential to match Dangal’s record if the content they offer is as much intriguing as Dangal. However, as of now Dangal’s records look variable out of reach.
Talking about Aamir Khan, his next film Secret Superstar is scheduled to release next month during the Diwali weekend. It features the Dangal star Zaira Wasim in the lead role as well. Following it, the actor will shift his focus towards Thugs of Hindostan where he will act alongside Katrina Kaif, Amitabh Bachchan and his Dangal co-star Fatima Sana Shaikh once again.
