Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar’s friendship is well known in Bollywood. Being friends for over two decades now, the duo shares a director-actor chemistry that is one of the best in Bollywood. When asked if Karan is planning to direct a film with SRK anytime soon, his simple reply was that if we come back together for a film then it has to be bigger than anything else in the world.

Talking about the actor, Karan said:

“Shah Rukh is amazing. The day when he did that one scene for me in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, he didn’t know anything about it. He came on the set, read the scene and did it. We have a chemistry as director and actor that is just ours. He looks at me and he knows what I need. He read the scene and he knew what I wanted and I knew what he was going to do. We had kept eight hours and we finished it in four.”

Karan Johar made his directorial debut with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in which Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee played the lead roles. The film went on to gain worldwide appeal and ultimately became an All Time Blockbuster. It is an evergreen film that is still remembered by the youth for its fresh friendship story. Except for Karan Johar’s 2012 film Student of the Year, Shah Rukh Khan has featured in every movie of his. Previously, the actor had a short role in his latest film ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ as well. Talking about it, he further added:

“We were both emotional, but we were pretending as if we are grown men. Aishwarya (Rai Bachchan) said, ‘You both have this connection’. I wrote the lines knowing that he was going to render them just the way it was shot and designed and I went to him and said, ‘I think only you can do this scene’. I needed his star power for that moment in the film and it just came together beautifully.”

Karan and SRK have worked together in films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and My Name is Khan where Shah Rukh Khan took over the center stage every time. Their previous collaboration was ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ where he played a short cameo role in the movie. There were rumours that a rift between the director actor duo led Karan to choose Ranbir over SRK in the movie. However, they gave a solid reply to these rumours with the little act in the film. When asked if he will direct SRK on the big screen once again, he replied:

“I know that when we do come together, it will be seamless. He is one actor I know, if I go to him for a film, he won’t even ask for a narration and will still come more prepared than most actors. I know when we come together — which could happen anytime — it will always be special because he and I have an understanding that I can proudly say he has only with me.”

He further stated that SRK is someone with whom everything just clicks well. The director actor duo has been a dream team in Bollywood. Karan feels like if they will ever come back on the big screen then it will be a movie that will be bigger than anything else. His actual words were:

“Shah Rukh is somebody with whom I have had a great creative collaboration. We are a little like a dream team, so I feel like when we come together, it has to be a mammoth film and has to be bigger than anything else.”

On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan’s latest release Jab Harry Met Sejal is having a disappointing run at the Indian box office. On the other hand, Karan Johar is still in producing role. It remains to be unseen that the director and actor duo will ever collaborate again in the near future once again.
