Sanjay Gupta has been criticized for making films inspired from Hollywood now and then. Surprisingly, this time his film is going to become an inspiration for Hollywood film-makers. 20th Century Fox has approached the Kaabil team to purchase the remake rights of the movie. As a matter of fact, Kaabil is going to become the first Hindi film to get an official Hollywood remake.
Confirming the news, Sanjay Gupta said:
“It’s true that Fox, through Tomas Jegeus [president, Fox International Productions], has approached Hrithik. Even though the developments are too premature to talk about at this moment, it is an honor for the team. What is also exciting is that Kaabil has been declared the best film of [the first half of] 2017 via an online poll. So, it’s a double win for us.”
An insider revealed the details of the meeting between Sanjay and the Hollywood studios:
“Before he jetted off to New York, Hrithik was pleasantly surprised to get a call from Tomas, who wanted to buy the remake rights of Kaabil. They feel the film is a pure entertainer and has all the ingredients for a great Hollywood film. Hrithik will discuss the matter with his father when he is back.”
Talking about the unique opportunity, Rakesh Roshan said to mid-day:
“The screenplay was hard-hitting, and the drama, gripping. It would make for a wonderful Hollywood adaptation, given that it has all the necessary emotions. It struck gold at the box-office because it was about a visually-impaired lover seeking revenge.”
Kaabil featured Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam in the lead roles. It revolved around the revenge saga of a blind man who is in pursuit of avenging his wife’s death. The film was a successful venture earning over 100 crores at the Indian Box Office.
