Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi Loses More of Its Forces

Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika seems to be getting into more trouble with its cast and crew. Almost a month after Sonu Sood left the team, there has been another exit. This time, it is the actress Swati Semwal.  Swati was portraying the role of Sadashivrao Bhau’s wife, Parvati. Apparently, there were three reasons for her to take on the project and two of them were Sonu and Krish. So, once Sonu was out of the picture, she’s been having two minds about continuing with the film.

When asked if Sonu Sood’s departure from the film had anything to do with her decision, she denied any connection. The reason she has given for her withdrawal is the lack of substance in her role. She says it isn’t what she had signed up for. “I am looking for performance-oriented roles,” she said. She sees it as the best choice considering her career prospects.

She states that she is not looking at lead role and she was happy with her character in the film, but the situation has changed and it does not hold the same appeal any more. With the change in cast, she expected her role to be considerably reduced in the epic biographical film. She got an inkling of this once she realized that Zeeshan, who is now playing Sadashivrao Bhau, has shot for considerably less time as compared to what Sonu Sood had put in.

Earlier, the actress was seen in films like “Bareilly ki Barfi” and Fanney Khan. She wishes that the film would do well. The venture has seen been beset with crew issues, including actors, producer and director. Kangana Ranaut took over as director for the patchwork of the film once Krish had moved on to his next venture. Post that, Sonu Sood quit the film, quoting his commitment to the next project Simmba. The next person to go was producer Sujay Kutty and this is the latest withdrawal.

The film is scheduled for release on January 25 next year, but with all the controversies, we’ll have to wait and see when it finally hits the screens.
