Rajinikanth’s 2.0 Director, Shankar Reveals His Choice for Villain’s Role


The magnum opus of the year, 2.0 – the Rajnikanth starrer has created quite a stir among the audience with its trailer launch as it features stunning visuals. In a recent press conference, 2.0’s director S Shankar revealed that the 71-yr old Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was his first choice instead of Akshay Kumar for the role of Dr. Richard, who is the anti-hero of the film.

As per a report, Shankar revealed that the film’s team had approached Mr. Schwarzenegger with details and dates, but the collaboration couldn’t come to full circle. Shankar said, “So we thought of looking at a good cast from the Indian film industry.

Shankar claimed that the 51-yr old Bollywood actor Akshay had approached Lyca Productions, who are the producers of 2.0 for the remake of Tamil drama/thriller Kaththi. Around the same time, he was recommended by others for the anti-hero role. Shankar then narrated the story to Akshay who accepted the role.

In a tweet by Akshay Kumar about his experience while shooting for the film, he stated, “For an actor who never puts makeup, 2.0 was a different story altogether. To get this look right, I think I must’ve taken longer than the female lead #2Point0pic.twitter.com/Pqn7F8yJS3 

In 2.0, Rajinikanth will be playing the role of scientist Dr. Vaseegaran and also his creation robot Chhiti, while Akshay Kumar will be playing the role of the villain scientist Dr. Richard. Also seen in lead role is Amy Jackson.

With action directors like Steve Griffin, Nick Powell and Silva, 2.0 is filled with power-packed action sequences and great VFX that is at par with Hollywood standards. The budget of the sci-fi film is estimated to be somewhere between INR 400 – INR 450 Crore excluding the costs of publicity. It is set to release on 29th of November, 2018 in over 10,000 screens worldwide.
