According to the megastar, Shah Rukh Khan, the film industry will have a benefit from the GST. He thinks that there is an accord with the 28% GST. Also, according to him, this will aid the business. He said this during the promotion of his movie, Jab Harry Met Sejal. His exact words were:
“With 28 percent now, I think there is uniformity. Finally, the benefit will come back to the consumer. Maybe not right now the way GST works. It will be returned to the consumer not directly but indirectly.”
Furthermore, he added:
“Previously, it was different for different states. In some states it was more, in some, it was less. So it used to effect all over the country. I think this is a very good thing that we have a uniform tax now. It will help in business in the long run. In the next few years, we will settle down to it.”
There is a two-slab structure of GST for movie tickets. Tickets will have an 18% tax if their price is less than Rs. 100. However, there will be a 28% tax on the tickets costing over Rs. 100.
Shah Rukh Khan injured himself on his way back to Kolkata, which also led to a delay in promotion of the movie. To a popular publication, on Twitter, he replied:
“Be there in 10 mins. Apologies to keep u waiting had to get a bit of dressing done…For a lil hurt. So had to c a doc.”
